Meet Swim Tribe AU: Because the Ocean Is Better Together
Every open water swimmer remembers the moment before the first swim. You're standing on the sand, looking out at a lot of water, wishing someone would walk in with you.
That moment is exactly where Swim Tribe AU began. Lisa, who started it, wanted to swim further, or sometimes just have a dip, but the ocean felt intimidating on her own. Having another person there, someone to share the fear, the joy and the ridiculousness of it all, would make it easier. That simple feeling is at the heart of Swim Tribe AU, and I'm really happy to share it with the Toasty community.
What is Swim Tribe AU?
Swim Tribe AU is a community platform for open water swimmers. It's launching this summer, starting in Melbourne and Port Phillip Bay.
It's focused on connection, exploration, safety and belonging rather than performance. No PBs, no streaks, no pressure. Their tagline says it well: less scrolling, more swimming.
What you'll be able to do
- See who's swimming and where. Discover swim spots and find out who's heading in.
- Check conditions in one place. Tides, wind, weather, water temperature and safety alerts.
- Join local swim communities. Find an existing group or start a group swim of your own.
- Explore swim spot guides. Local guides for places like St Kilda, Brighton and Frankston.
- Share your story. Post short videos or photos from your swims.
- Read and connect. Events, articles and a community hub for swimmers.
Who is it for?
Everyone. First-timers who want company on the sand, regular dippers looking for a new spot, and long-distance swimmers wanting a group to train with. Swim Tribe AU is built to be inclusive and to put wellbeing first.
Why Toasty is part of the Tribe
Swim Tribe AU isn't about a giant list of things you should buy. It's about genuine connections with brands and people who understand what being a swimmer is like, and who make getting to the water, getting in and getting out again a little easier.
That's what I've always wanted Toasty to do. Lisa wore her pink Toasty long before Swim Tribe AU was an idea: through Melbourne winters, 10 degree swims, change-room-free mornings and more than a few unexpected downpours. It's been soaked, washed, shared around and relied on, and the salt marks are the proof. You can read her story on the Swim Tribe AU blog: My Toasty Jacket: The After-Swim Essential I Actually Use.
A cold swim, a good friend, a warm jacket and a coffee afterwards. The simple things are often the ones we enjoy the most.
